My earlier work involved simple unaltered forms.  A lot of experimentation with different chemicals and organic compounds took place.  The blue green on the bottle was from the addition of miracle grow in the barrel firing.  While the color is great, I stopped using it because it left a dull plaque on the wares that would not come off easily.

Terra Sigillata is a slip made from red clay.  Several thin layers are applied before the pot is bisque fired.  The smoke and ash in the barrel  traps carbon in the pot giving it black and grey patches.

2009

Some of my most recent work adds more decorative touches such as raffia and beads.  Subtle details such as slip designs or small carvings are applied.  This enables the observer to enjoy the pot from a distance and also offers a sense of surprise when discovering these additions on closer inspection.
